Tech Resort CIC – Isis gets involved in skills building

Back in 2013 a few RSA Fellows and talented local people here in Eastbourne decided that we would like to do something positive to improve and enhance the skills base in the Town.  Being our home town Mark Hadley of Isis Environmental has joined the team as a Director of ‘Tech Resort CIC’ to share some of his skills

TechResort is making Eastbourne a great home for creative, digital and tech folks with current projects including – fortnightly code club for students aged 8 -18, a skills survey of all Eastbourne creative, digital and technical businesses, mentoring 15 year old Theo to build an Android based ‘What’s on’ TV display system for Eastbourne and helping to prepare local teachers for the new national IT curriculum starting in September 2014.

We sources some initial regional funding from the RSA to get it started, and already have lots of interest, the code club being especially popular.  Towns like Eastbourne need to become a part of a pipeline for these skills if we are going to bring fresh, interesting and well-paid jobs to the Town and retain youngsters with these skills.  We have just launched a jobs page for the site, which will advertise vacancies in the sector to talented people
